Mundo Novo coffee beans are not grown on traditional plantations, but the beans are actually picked from trees integrated into the living rainforest. Because the surrounding trees are not cut down, the undergrowth is preserved, which helps to create the perfect natural conditions for the coffee trees to thrive. The shade helps to protect them from the sun, so they can grow a naturally delicious crop without being damaged by harmful rays, whilst the natural undergrowth helps to provide the coffee trees with nutrients by the rich decaying organic matter on the forest floor.

Now producing coffee in this way isn't easy, and sure does take a lot more time and effort than many of the more 'modern' methods employed around the world to grow and harvest the crop. Because of the way it is grown, Mundo Novo coffee can only by harvested slowly, by hand. But this means that there are jobs available to many more of the local people than would normally be employed, and for a longer time. So everyone is a winner, the local people, the forest and all the animals and creepy crawlies that live there, and you, as you get to sell a delicious cup of coffee and feel good about it too.
